Commands

  • A command is either an (installed) program or a „built-in“ instruction.
  • A command can have several parameters.
  • Special command control parameters are called options.
  • Option values are called arguments.
In the following, command names and their parameters are highlighted. 

Example:

$ commandname -n 14 examplefilename.txt

The command commandname has two parameters:  -n 14 and examplefilename.txt.

The parameter -n 14 consists of the option n and its argument 14.
