E-learning module "Registration for the bwHPC clusters"

What is ZAS?

The Central Application Site (ZAS).

The ZAS (Central Application Site) is a web interface of the bwHPC clusters to handle the user compute activities.

At the ZAS, you register your planned compute activities (RV, Rechenvorhaben).

Each RV has a responsible person (RV responsible) who applies for the compute activity (RV registration). A RV may have additional team members (managers and coworkers, RV collaboration).

The Cluster Assignment Team (CAT) assigns the exact cluster according to the RV requirement.

The RV responsible person
  • is authorized to change roles (manager, coworker) of team members,
  • may de-/reactivate team members,
  • can renew passwords,
  • may apply for further resources (if approved),
  • has access to bwForCluster (if approval is valid).
The team members (managers, coworkers) have general rights and access to bwForCluster if the approval is valid.
There are additional manager rights: Managers are allowed to
  • read team details,
  • de-/reactivate coworkers.
A RV approval is valid for
  • one certain bwForCluster,
  • all team members,
  • a period of one year after the approval.

The starting point for the registration of a RV at the ZAS is https://zas.bwhpc.de/en/zas_info_bwforcluster.php.

At "RV registration", the applicant (RV responsible) describes the research objective, the used methods and the required software packages. Additionally, the resource requirements have to be specified: CPU hours, memory, disk space, ...

After approval of the RV by the CAT, coworkers and managers register themselves under "RV Collaboration".
